Junior League of Asheville ChildWatch Tour – Spring 2017
On Friday, April 28, members of the community gathered at Trinity Episcopal Church for the Junior League of Asheville’s 19th Annual Child Watch Tour. This year’s Tour focused on families facing homelessness.
Buncombe County Schools Youth Transition Coordinator, Christine Craft, kicked off the event with a presentation about homeless families currently in the Buncombe County and Asheville school systems. Participants then began the tour with a stop at the Buncombe County Government Family Justice Center. Julie Klipp Nicholson, FJC Coordinator, provided information on what all the FJC does to help at-risk families and gave a virtual tour of the facilities.
The second stop on the tour was the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries. Reverend Micheal Woods spoke about what the organization does and who they serve. Tour participants had the opportunity to see the facility and hear about recent and upcoming improvements to the Mission. At the conclusion of the Tour, all participants were asked to pledge a project. Project options included collecting pajamas or stuffed animals for the Rescue Mission, creating “care kits”, or even teaching a class.
